Prayer Network
The Intercessory Prayer Network was established as a result of a tragic and fatal shooting that took place in Lincolnville, South Carolina, in October 2007. Pastor Edward Lee Johnson, who currently resides and pastors a church in Lincolnville, was inspired to take this prayer to the public officials in the Berkeley/Charleston/Dorchester Tri-County Area because of the escalating murders that were taking place within those communities during that year. Between the three counties, by October of 2007, Charleston County had amassed approximately 40 murders; Berkley County, almost 30; and Dorchester County, around 10-12.
Pastor Johnson attributed the low murder rate in Dorchester County to the prayer that was being held at the Dorchester County Jail by Sheriff Ray Nash. Having participated in the prayer with Nash for years, Johnson believed that God led him to the officials of the other two counties to request their permission to host the prayer in their areas as well, in order to pray for God’s favor within their municipalities.
From 2007 until now, the murder rates have been significantly lower. We believe this phenomenon is a direct result of the collaborative efforts of the public officials along with the intercessors who are petitioning God weekly in the public sphere. The Intercessory Prayer Network is currently hosting prayer in the following areas, led by prayer captains who facilitate an orderly session. Anyone from these communities is invited to contact the corresponding captain and join this effort on the behalf of our communities.
