About Us

The Charleston Assembly was organized to sustain, support, and promote local collaboration among the ecclesiastical, civic, business, and governmental community.  Our goal is to have a united voice from the faith community that will speak into every facet of our society.  The CA of the Greater Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties, South Carolina, will seek to provide a forum and mechanism for which the spiritual, business, governmental, and civic leaders can collectively provide input into the public sector, which expands the sphere of individual organizations.  The Council will not seek to exalt itself as a political party, nor favor a particular party.  Our goal is to speak with a single voice (oneness) in the community and assist in providing “Christ Centered” spiritual and moral assistance in the greater community. Our Gideon Men’s Gathering (aka Charleston Assembly) will connect, partner with, and highlight all community organizations that are rendering positive and necessary services to our communities. For too long, we have allowed politics, race, and denominationalism to keep us divided in our own cities. We will model Christ!

Who are the G.C.A. members?

Council members are representatives from a cross-section of spiritual (churches and religious organizations), businesses, Christian-nonprofit, education, media, and governmental organizations in our communities. The C.A. is led by the Holy Spirit through the collaboration of men who are in good standing with our Gideon 300 Men’s Gathering. The Council itself will decide if a particular individual has the spiritual qualifications to become a leader and a voting member of the organization.

What will the G.C.A. do?
Council members will offer wisdom and spiritual counsel to all ministries and leaders who desire to have its support. This Council will also lend its services to all civic and governmental entities within the greater Charleston, South Carolina area that desire its help as it relates to the spiritual and moral affairs of our communities; i.e. education, business, poverty, morality, crime, and all other facets of our society. The C.A. will seek to give its voice in the following areas where the constituents of its organization serve in our community. Sub-commissions will be empowered by the council to serve as advocates in the following areas:
• Families • Racial Reconciliation • Government • Finance & Wealth • Education Building • Business • Community • Religion Advocacy • Penal Institutions • Missions • Media • Evangelism • Sports, Arts & Entertainment • Medical, Health & Wellness • Science & Technology, etc. All of our major churches and denominations are active in some way or another in our communities, but our goal is to develop a collaborative effort. The C.A. will coordinate and facilitate efforts that will bring our civic and faith community together. The C.A. will not give its voice in any matter unless it has the support of the majority of its active members.

When will the G.C.A. meet?

The Charleston Assembly meetings will be held concurrently with our quarterly (February, June, October) Gideon Men’s Gathering. A deliberative session will be held as the “second phase” of each meeting for the purpose of addressing the business at hand. This period will convene for the purpose of appointing officers, commissioners/ministries, events planning, fundraising, vision forecasting, hearing council reports and progress etc. (Please allow yourself at least 4.5 hours for our quarterly sessions.)

Where will the G.C.A. Meet?
The Council or its designee will choose a periodic meeting place. All meetings will be held at a location that has convenient access, and the conference areas must be free from all distractions so that there will be no interference during the Council’s deliberations. Periodic meetings may also be held via teleconferences if the Council deems it necessary.

Why is there a need for the G.C.A.?

Every civil society in history has risen or fallen as a result of, or the lack of strong effective leadership and collaboration among its civic, governmental, businesses, and religious leaders. The forum that we seek to develop among these important entities will serve as a catalyst for dialogue and establishing “Christ Centered” unity in the Tri-County area. Community roundtables, think tanks, task force, and any other method by which we can join forces for kingdom advancement may be considered. In America, the Bible was the foundation from which it has adopted its founding values. Consequently, it is imperative that the church, partnering with our government and civic community, maintain a fundamental role in the nation’s future. The C.A. will serve as a testament of Christ for generations to come. The C.A. will accept spiritual, moral, and financial support from any organization that is willing to enhance the social and economic well-being of everyone in our communities. However, we reserve the right to refuse support from any group that may conflict with our core values. In early America, Charleston was one of, if not the wealthiest and most productive cities in the United States. With the establishment of the C.A., Charleston can once again become a gateway and leading city in our nation for unity and oneness among the brethren (Psalms 133). The goal is to live up to the name for which it is affectionately known, “The Holy City.” The C. A. will provide input into the public sector, which expands the sphere of a single organization. The council will not seek to exalt itself as a political party or favor a particular party. Becoming a single voice (oneness) in the community and assisting in providing spiritual and moral guidance in the greater community and governmental process is our goal.

The information on our website is designed to delineate some basics as to what the C.A. will consist of. However, no vision can become any greater than the individuals who are called to implement its fundamental principles. The C.A. will seek to walk the road of high moral standards and live up to the greatest commandment taught by the greatest individual who ever lived, Christ. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind”; and, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” In other words, “Do unto others as you would prefer that they do to you.” As our Faith, government, and business community comes together, God, through the Holy Spirit will favor our unity and begin to impact the secular entities of our society on our behalf. The Judeo-Christian heritage that we share has taught us that God honors the Unity of the brethren. In the wake of the volatile climate that is in our nation because of moral decadence, income disparity, political corruption and the dissolution of basic family values, there is no hope outside of God’s divine intervention. We have been called to the kingdom for such a time as this. The C.A. seeks to collaborate with businesses, churches, ministries, and par-church organizations within the Tri-county area to advance the kingdom of God among us.
