                                                                                           The C.A. Moral Clarity

A part of our purpose as the Charleston Assembly is to speak with one voice concerning the great moral and ethical struggles we face as a community and a nation. We recognize that the effects of sin are such that dysfunction exists in all persons and in our culture at varying degrees of concern. We also understand that because of the complexity of certain sins and evils, pastors can and do have different strategies and solutions to addressing those ills.

That being said, it is important before a watching community to clearly articulate certain moral absolutes to provide moral clarity in a world that lives in ambiguity and confusion. These foundational absolutes would include the following statements.

We support what has become known as The Right to Life. No other liberty is of any concern if one’s right to exist is taken away. This would include abortion, infanticide, and euthanasia. While we may recognize that on infrequent occasions genuine moral dilemmas exist, we stand against the current culture’s view of convenience abortion and relativism with regards to life. Life is a gift from God and is to be considered sacred.

We support the concept of Traditional Marriage as the Bible teaches it, as being between one man and one woman. Marriage is the most foundational structure of civilization and family. The traditional definition of marriage has endured for thousands of years and has proven itself to not only be valid but indeed beneficial. The redefinition of marriage to include “same-sex” unions or any other union is not in the best interest of our culture or community.

We support Religious Freedom as it was established by our nation’s founding documents. We believe people are free to express their religious viewpoints without fear or intimidation. We believe pastors have the right to speak their concerns and guidance from the Scripture with regards to public policy from their pulpits. We will vigorously oppose any effort by the government to restrict our religious conscience or free speech.

We support the nation of Israel in its attempts to maintain its existence in a hostile environment. We recognize that not all of Israel’s decisions can be construed as “righteous,” but we support the Israelis and their right to exist on their historic homeland. We recognize their unique place in the purposes of God and their strategic place as a democracy in the Middle East.

While these statements may not reflect all we are called to address as the Charleston Assembly, it is a beginning place for us to speak to a

watching community.
